World Exhibition Reformation

On May 20, 2017 as the Reformation Truck arrived, the World Exhibition Reformation was opened. The Truck started in autumn 2016 and stopped in many European cities. Running until September 10, the World Exhibition Reformation invites guests and the people from Wittenberg to diverse events, concerts, discussion platforms and other activities. The Lutheran World Federation (LWF) is participating the World Exhibition. Different member churches and partners of the LWF were invited to introduce their work. Fifteen hosts are at the venue known as the Heaven´s Tent. The first theme week “Europe” was arranged by the Lutheran Evangelical Church in Italy (CELI) together with ecumenical partners. The CELI was followed by hosts from Saxony and Finland. Also the different partners of the LWF, e.g. the Martin-Luther-Bund or the United Evangelical Lutheran Church of Germany (VELKD), just as the different workspaces of the LWF, e.g. the Global Young Reformers Network, are representing their self.

“At the beginning of May, the LWF celebrated the global Reformation commemoration in Windhuk (Namibia). Now, the LWF has another stop in Wittenberg with the Heaven´s Tent.”, said Pastor Hans W. Kasch, the director of the LWF Centre in Wittenberg. “People from all over the world are hosts at the Heaven´s tent. They all present their church life in a different way and they give a good insight in the diversity of the Lutheran World Federation”, sums Pastor Kasch the concept up.

Some of the Young Reformers of the LWF summed up their experiences in the Heaven´s tent and at the World Exhibition Reformation.

Christine Shander, USA:
Some of us were here two years ago for Workshop Wittenberg, so it is meaningful to return with projects of what we have done since the first meeting. It is fitting to be in Wittenberg where Reformation began. We are here to commemorate Luther’s 500 anniversary, and we are doing so by collectively reflecting on the past, contemplating the issues of today and dreaming of the future.

Sam Suke, Australia:
The sixteen young reformers who are representing Australia, Philippines, USA, Chile, Brazil, Colombia, Papua New Guinea, Botswana, Zambia, Liberia, Ukraine, Indonesia, and (of course) Germany have communed in Wittenberg to learn about not only the Reformation but also about each other and the countries we represent. We have enjoyed morning and evening devotions, presentations about each delegate country and the successes (and challenges) of our youth programs back home. The international identity and synchronicity of our group has buoyed our spirits and spurred us on to continuing the reformation within our own geographical and temporal contexts. We eagerly await the opportunity to implement that which we have learned.

Lena Lothring, Germany:
Even in the Heaven´s tent, where we presented our projects, we see that youth matters.  The positive reactions on our presence are refreshing and the interest is just amazing. The youth matters for the world. You really can feel it here.

Each euro allows the Luthergarten to grow!

It is not possible for all churches to raise the entire amount for the tree planting. But we do not want to exclude any church, particularly in this worldwide and ecumenical project. With your donation, you can help these churches to participate in the unique project Luthergarten.
