Flooding in the Luthergarten

Strong weather events occur repeatedly in Germany. In the afternoon of July 27, 2016 it hit Wittenberg and the Luthergarten. 96 liters of rain per square meter - double the average amount for the month of July - fell in less than an hour. The sewer could not absorb these water masses; the open city Creek flooded parts of the old city. In the somewhat deeper Luther garden squeezed the water out of the sewers and bubbled as fountain in the height. Within seconds, the Luthergarten turned into a seascape. Fortunately, damage to the trees could not be found, only the paths must be restored partially.

The water quickly has gone and the cleanup is almost complete. Fortunately, damage to the trees could not be determined, only the paths must be restored partially.
