On April 26th, 2017, Mr. Thorsten Bienemann, Representative for Men’s Work in the Church District of Altenkirchen (right, with certificate) along with Mr. Willi Jung, member of the Church Council (left), together with other members of the congregation, planted a sweetgum tree on behalf of the Congregation of Daaden in the Church District of Altenkirchen.
On June 11th, 2017, during the presentation of city rights to Daaden, Minister of the Interior of Rheinland-Palatinate Roger Lewentz (pictured at far right), and Minister of State Sabine Bätzing-Lichtenthäler (3rd from right), with participation from Pastor Steffen Sorgatz, planted a sweetgum tree (Liquidambar styraciflua) as partner tree for the Evangelical Congregation of Daaden. Minister of the Interior Lewentz recalled the special connection of Luther to Rheinland-Palatinate through his appearance at the Reichstag in Worms. The planting was the culmination of a four-year collaboration between the Westerwaldbahn, the Evangelical Congregation of Daaden, the Action Circle (Aktionskreis) Daaden, and Torsten Bienemann, representing the men’s work in the Protestant Church District of Altenkirchen.
Another tree was given to the congregation by Mr. Jona Luther, a direct descendant of Martin Luther’s brother Jacob, for Luther’s Garden in Bergisch-Gladbach.
