Instead of the thorn shall come up the cypress; instead of the brier shall come up the myrtle; and it shall make a name for the Lord, an everlasting sign that shall not be cut off."

Planting in the Luther Garden :

On October 31st, 2011, Pastor Arden Haug (right, with spade), Regional Representative for Europe for ELCA Global Mission planted a small leaved linden tree on behalf of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America (ELCA). A child from the Protestant Elementary School in Wittenberg is ready to help by watering the tree.

Planting the partner tree :

On Reformation Sunday, October 27th, 2013, an apple tree was planted at Lake of the Isles Lutheran Church in Minneapolis, Minnesota, as partner tree for the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America (ELCA). Many other trees were also planted in the ELCA in remembrance of the Reformation.
