On November 1st, 2009, the first 25 trees in the Luthergarten were adopted. Head of the Church Council Dr. Christoph Münchow of Dresden (with spade, next to the tree) planted a honey locust tree on behalf of the Evangelical Lutheran Church of Saxony. A child from the Protestant Elementary School in Wittenberg is ready to help by watering the tree.
On October 30th, 2012, the eve of Reformation Day, Bishop Jochen Bohl (left) and Deputy Mayor of Dresden Detlef Sittel (right) planted a silver linden tree near the office of the bishop as partner tree for the Evangelical Lutheran Church of Saxony. They were accompanied by representatives of church, culture, and city. Bishop Bohl recalled the tradition of planting such Luther trees in connection with Reformation Day. He thanked Dean Ullmann for his presence, since the Luther Decade is an ecumenical event which must be celebrated with and not against the Catholic church.
