On October 1st, 2011, General Secretary Pastor Dr. Larry Miller (next to the tree) planted a red maple tree on behalf of the Mennonite World Conference.
On September 16th, 2011, during the celebration of 200 years of the Mennonite General Assembly in the Netherlands, the partner tree for the Mennonite World Conference was planted at the Mennorode Conference Center in Elspleet, the Netherlands, as a symbol of the reconciliation between Lutherans and Mennonites. Fernando Enns, Vice President of the Association of Mennonite Congregations in Germany (AMG) and Professor of Peace Theology and Peace Ethics at the University of Amsterdam; Otto Bleker, President of the Mennonite Conference in the Netherlands; and Kathryn Johnson, acting LWF General Secretary for Ecumenical Affairs, all took part in the ceremony.
