On December 20th, 2016, Retired Pastor Hartmut Barsnick, of the Evangelical Church in Central Germany, planted a Thuringian ash tree as a sign of the ecumenical connection of the City of Lutherstadt Wittenberg with the Greater Milwaukee Synod of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America in Wisconsin, USA, and with their partner, the Meru Diocese of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Tanzania. Because of his close personal contact to both synods, Pastor Barswick was asked by both partners to represent them at the tree planting.
