Planting in the Luther Garden :

On October 21st, 2012, during a conference of the Lutheran World Federation, Pastor Basa Hutabarat (right, reading the selected Bible verse, next to the Director of the LWF Center Wittenberg, Pastor Hans W. Kasch) planted a honey locust tree on behalf of the National Committee and the Simalungun Protestant Christian Church (GKPS) in Indonesia.

Planting the partner tree :

On June 15th, 2014, during the LWF Council meeting in Medan, Indonesia, several trees were planted as partner trees to the Luthergarten in Wittenberg, including the trees for the National Committee, the Communion of Churches in Indonesia, The Indonesian Christian Church (HKI), the Indonesian Christian Lutheran Church (GKLI), and the Simalungen Protestant Christian Church (GKPS). Representatives of the 13 LWF member churches in Indonesia planted young mango, avocado, banana, and durian trees on the grounds of the Ecumenical Center in North Sumatra. The first three trees were planted by LWF President Bishop Munib A. Younan (2nd from left), LWF General Secretary Pastor Martin Junge (left), and representatives of the seven LWF regions. “May these trees grow as our communion in the Lutheran World Federation is growing,” declared LWF President Younan.
