On November 1st, 2009, the first 25 trees in the Luthergarten were adopted. Metropolitan Augoustinos (pictured, assisted by students of the Protestant Elementary School in Wittenberg) planted a linden tree as a representative of the Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomaios on behalf of the Orthodox Church, Patriarchy of Constantinople.
According to legend, Martin Luther said that he would still plant a little apple tree today, even if the world were to end tomorrow. On October 22nd, 2009, Metropolitan Augoustinos (pictured) planted a Granny Smith apple tree in the courtyard of the Metropolitan Cathedral “Agia Trias” of the Greek Orthodox Metropolis of Germany in Bonn.
