On April 6th, 2013, Church Superintendent Christian Beuchel (center), accompanied by members of the church district, planted a field maple tree on behalf of the Protestant Church District of Wittenberg, Germany. The tree planting took place at the close of the church district conference.
On May 11th, 2013, members of the Wittenberg Church District planted a wild service tree as partner tree next to the church in Brehna, under the Biblical motto of Colossians 3:16 (“Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly”). The planting took place during an ecumenical worship service during a festival of tolerance on the occasion of “10 Years of Highway Church Brehna.” The second partner tree was planted on August 8th, 2013, in front of St. Mary’s Church in Prettin. This took place during a festival service on the occasion of the 700th anniversary of the first mention of the church. A black mulberry tree was placed in the earth and this was connected with the Biblical story of Zacchaus (Luke 19:1-10).
