On September 19th, 2015, Sorbian Superintendent Jahn Mahling (left, next to the tree), accompanied by members of the congregation Sorben and Wenden in Lusatia, Germany, planted a catalpa tree on behalf of the Sorbian Church Federation Bautzen and the Working Group for Wendish Worship in Cottbus, Germany.
On July 5th, 2015, on the occasion of the 69th Sorbian Church Day, Sorbian Church Superintendent Jan Mahling (left, next to the tree) and Pastor Thomas Haenchen (at the far right) planted a linden tree in the cemetery of the Evangelical Lutheran Congregation of Hochkirch, Germany. The particular influence of the Reformation for the Sorbian ethnic group was remembered, as their literature was formed together with the renewal movement coming from Wittenberg. One of the Bible translators of the Sorbs, Pastor Jan Wawer, did his life’s work in this congregation. Further plantings are planned in Schleife and in Jänschwalde.
