On June 30th, 2014, Bishop Patut Sipahuta (3rd from right) planted a “Schöner von Nordhausen” apple tree on behalf of the Christian Protestant Church in Indonesia, accompanied by a small delegation from his church. Along with the tree planting, they participated in the 7th General Assembly of the United Evangelical Mission in Wuppertal, Germany.
On June 15th, 2014, during the LWF Council meeting in Medan, Indonesia, several trees were planted as partner trees to the Luthergarten in Wittenberg, including the trees for the National Committee, the Communion of Churches in Indonesia, The Indonesian Christian Church (HKI), the Indonesian Christian Lutheran Church (GKLI), and the Simalungen Protestant Christian Church (GKPS). Representatives of the 13 LWF member churches in Indonesia planted young mango, avocado, banana, and durian trees on the grounds of the Ecumenical Center in North Sumatra. The first three trees were planted by LWF President Bishop Munib A. Younan (2nd from left), LWF General Secretary Pastor Martin Junge (left), and representatives of the seven LWF regions. “May these trees grow as our communion in the Lutheran World Federation is growing,” declared LWF President Younan.
