On September 24th, 2013, Pastor Hans W. Kasch, Director of the LWF Center Wittenberg (pictured), on behalf of the church, planted a catalpa tree for the Union of Protestant Churches of Alsace and Lorraine, France.
On March 1st, 2015, on the occasion of the installation of the newly elected church board, the partner tree of the Union of Protestant Churches of Alsace and Lorraine, France, was planted in Straßburg-Hautepierre. The willow tree (salix caprea Kilmarnock) was planted in front of the “Centre communautaire Martin Bucer,” the church center with a diaconal emphasis. The new church board, comprised of nine members, four of whom have an immigrant background, sees the tree also as a symbol for the efforts of the congregation to give uprooted people a place where they can become rooted anew.
